A disease that has so far killed five african union peace-keepers in somalia and infected over 50, is another battle front to an already over-stretched AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The infected are evacuated to kenyan hospitals where they complain of chest pain, fever, headache, swelling of limbs, rapid heartbeart and respiratory problems.

The disease believed to be leptospirosis is a baterial disease caused by contact with food, water, soil containing urine from an infected animal, like dogs or rats. The disease has similar symptoms just like the ebola viral disease such as: high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, chills, redness in the eyes, abdominal pain, jaundice, haemorrhages in skin and mucous membranes, vomiting, diarrhoea and a rash. If untreated, the patient develops kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure and of course, the un-mentioned eventuality of death.

The military dwelling places need to be rid of the disease-rich stray dogs and rats plus draining stagnant water, else this complicated disease with no human vaccines may become the last straw that broke the AMISOM’s back.
