Rape is a potent weapon of war. It defiles and dishonours women and takes away their most treasured chastity. It puts a psychological pressure on the defenders. Hindu women preferred to do Johar (burning themselves in community fire) than surrender their honour to the enemy.

Well, as a christian, its not good to take thy own life. Its only the Good Lord with the power over life... but sometimes staying with the enemy is not all that bad.
Case in point is what has been happening in northern Uganda. Ladies have been abducted by rebels but at least some have made back to their homes, though with children, but at least alive.

In every war the same weapons are used; even in war of words. When you want to abuse some one; don’t you abuse his mother, sister, or daughter instead of father, brother or son?

Exactly! Unfortunately this is continuing to happen even today. Believe all war zones have all these untold stories... you only get to hear titbits when the war is long but over! :(
