Nadal's career will never be the same. It was his high intensity game which made him that good, and its that high intensity game that gave him the injuries. He will not be as good as Federer ever again.

don’t write him off so easily. he is gonna rest and come back strong. maybe not this year but he certainly has got good game and he is yet to reach his peak.

Federer is playing without the pressure of trying to break the record so I'm sure he wanted to win, but it doesn't hurt him as much as losing the Australian did.
